About The Luncheon Speaker
Robert J Lenz grew up in Shorewood Hills on the west side of Madison. My father was a Professor of Civil Engineering at the UW. I graduated from Wisconsin High School on the UW Campus in 1957. From there it was a year at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor before I saw the light and returned to the UW where I graduated in 1962 with a degree in Food Science. Then it was two years in the Medical Service Corps in San Antonio. Upon completing my service requirement I returned to graduate school in the UW before taking a job with the Oconomowoc Canning Company in Waunakee. I was in charge of Quality Assurance, Research, and Technical Services. After going through a name change to Stokely USA in 1985 we were purchased by Chiquita Processed Foods in 1999. I had been there over 30+ years and it was time to retire. However retirement did not last long as I soon joined Wisconsin Public Radio and Television were I worked in Audience Services and Membership. My second, and I hope final, retirement occurred in October 2008. Currently I am on the Board of Directors of ProRail and Co-President of Theater Bus in Madison. Meanwhile I have traveled the world by train, to the top of Norway, to the bottom of both Africa and South America, across Russia, China, Australia and New Zealand. In 2009 I traveled over 20,000 miles by train, across and around the US. It has been a long struggle (since 1971), but I hope to see Amtrak service to Madison in a couple of years.
